Description: | Internal, 3 people in person. Join us on Tuesday, 7/6 at 2pm on Zoom for a Yerkes Glass Plate demonstration by Rich Kron. The cross-departmental Glass Plate digitization project aims to develop accessible and cost-effective means of digitizing astronomical photographic glass plates, transcribing logbooks, and making the data widely accessible. Part of the process is translating digitizations of the original objects into other formats that make the data searchable and useful for scientists today. Dr. Kron will run through various programs and outputs that he and a group of undergraduate students have used to demonstrate the viability of 100-year-old glass plates as a rich source of scientific data. |
